Hold down the control lock button on your whirlpool washer for three seconds at the end of the washing cycle.
Washer lid locked wont open.
The release is normally accessible from below the door lock or on some models from inside the soap dispenser housing.
If it opens you re all set.
Unplug the machine for 5 minutes to let it reset and then plug it back in and give it a try.
If the washer door won t unlock the problem might be the main control board.
Check for lock interference with lock striker.
Let the washer sit unplugged for about 10 minutes then try lifting the lid.

Step 3 if your whirlpool washer did not unlock at the end of step 1 press and hold the end of cycle button for five seconds to manually reset your washing machine.
The lid must be completely closed and latched for the washer to operate.
Normally the problem is with the lock mechanism.
Lid is not closed completely due to interference.
If it still won t budge proceed to plan b.
Listen and when you hear the unlatching sound the door should open.
This is not common.
Make sure the door lock light is off.
Most washers will have a manual release to unlock the mechanism and allow you to open the door or lid.
On top load washers that lost power during a cycle it will take up to 5 minutes for the washer to unlock and resume normal operation.
If the door or lid won t open at the end of the cycle then the lock mechanism may be at fault.
