Perhaps the most vulnerable appliance to extreme cold weather is your washing machine because of the constant use of water.
Knowing how freezing can hurt your washer and knowing how to prevent this damage will help your appliance last a long time.
Remove washer drain hose from drain.

Pay attention to winter weather forecasts and take precautions to protect the washing machine when frigid temperatures are expected.
Like washing machines you should proceed with caution if storing your freezer in the garage.
Disconnect the hoses from the water supply and drain out the water from the hoses.
My garage is unheated and happens to be where the washer and dryer.

The garage temperature needs to be kept above freezing 32 f or the water components water lines water valves and the water reservoir may become damaged.
The winter of 13 14 was especially brutal especially in january when it had dipped in to the negative double digits outside.
So my own experience shows how a garage is a bad place to install a washing machine.
Fortunately the washing machine resumed working with no harm done.
