This is an incredibly small measurement which is hard to visualize but it is vital to know the micron rating at the microscopic level filters operate.

Micron levels are used to determine the size of particles that a particular filter can remove. Sediment filters remove different contaminants depending on their micron rating.

The smaller the micron level number the more the particles it will remove. Although a water filter with a smaller number micron level will catch more contaminants it will also clog faster and easier. A micron is a unit of measurement describing the pore size of a micron water filter. Knowing what is in your water is the first step in determining what micron rating the water filter has to be.

Simply put a micron is a unit of measurement. Since treated water is free of these types of organisms a 1 micron filter is not necessary.
